Iardella Family from Pontremoli, Italy

Post by mrspink42 »

Hi

I found this site by pure chance and i hope someone can help me with a some research that i am doing for a friend.

I am hoping someone can help me trace

Pietro Guiseppe Iardella
b. 05 Jul 1885
Pontremoli, Italy
d. 02 Jul 1940 (on board the Andorra Star)

was married to

Emilia Biondi
Also born in Italy but i do not know where she died.

They settled in England and had four children:

Beppino Belisaro Iardella
Edna Iardella
Anna Mara Iardella
Lidia Iardella

Can any kind person tell me how i can start tracing Pietro and Emilia?
I have never looked for Italian ancestry and i am totally stuck

Any help would be gratefully received!

Many thanks in advance

Lisa

Dear Ms Pink (?) gklad you said start....If you go to your nearest Mormon family history library (www.familyserach.org for location nearest your home) you can rent out the vital data micorfilm forPontremoli for all births, marriages and deaths from 1866 to 1910 which should cover the birth and parentage for Pietro Giuseppe Iardella. The film can be rented for about $5.00US and can be followed for translation and direction by a companion book Discovering your Italian Ancestors by Lynn Nelson. May I suggest you use a magnifying glass since the records are hand written. You must request the Pontremoli, Massa carrara microfilm as well as the Toscana region microfilm for overlaps. Copies can be made at the library (usually).

If you wish to avoid this method of research you might wish to write directly to Pontremoli and request his birth certificate which is free of charge in which case you would write in Italian (form letters in Italian at www.mangeruca.com) and request his "estratto di nascita"=long form certificate which will reflect his parents names and then you can obtain his family compositon by requesting a family status certficate in his father's name after you discover it on his birth record."certificato di Stato di Famiglia" and will contain all the members of his immediate family.

The address for this is Uffico di Stato Civile, Comune di Pontremoli, Postale 54027, (MS), Toscana region, Italy and you may wish to consider enclosing $5.00 as suggested by the Mormon church people for attending to requests like this is an end of day duty for poorly paid clerks. =Peter=

POSTSCRIPT: Insofar as Emilia Biondi is concerned, perhaps you might also seek her out on the same micorfilm that you use for Pietro Iardella since there are 3 Biondi listed in the telephone directory for Pontremoli and 1 Iardella. Go to www.paginebianche.it and put in surname in first line and Pontremoli in third line and click CERCA for listings. These p[ersons may also be contacted for information as they are most likely related to the both of them. Further the micorfilm records may show up their marriage as well. =Peter=

howdy, i'm a Jardella but i've just got back from pontremoli where the iardella family tomb is (my grandfathers father and upwards are iardella's), it would seem that at least one stem of iardella's have changed there name to jardella.

contact me on gregj_7777@hotmail.co.uk for photos or the tomb.

Greg Jardella.
