How to prove he is my father

Post by Pimpernel »

Is there any way in Italy that someone can be legally required to be tested for possibilty of paternity? I believe I have found my father....but how do I now prove it?

Any help gratefully received.

Perhaps an Italian embassy referral to an Italian attorney who specializes in forensic genetics. This will eventually lead you to follow further leads coming from this intial contact in Italy. =Peter=

Thanks for the replies.

My mother gave me his name and domicile. Through this I eventually met with him 3 weeks ago. We have many physical similarities especially facial. He cannot remember my mother though he has never actually said that (for any reason) it COULDN'T be him. He doesn't want to take DNA test so I was wondering if there is any way I can legally force him to be tested. Though this would be a last resort, I am still trying to persuade him but it could take a long time.

Thanks again

I have never heard of obligatory requirement to obtain someone's DNA but there are subtle ways which leads me to inquire why would you force a man who is your putative father to do something he does not want to do? =Peter=

Pimpernel,

I am happy that you may have found your father but I don't envy the position you're in or that you may be forcing him into.

Why not just try and get to know him a bit better first and give him the opportunity to make the decision. Perhaps mom could help out..?

If the man wish not the DNA test, this meaning that is your father, otherwise: why not?
Legally you can force it, it is necessary a judge order... and many law battles..
many similar cases...
Maradona soccer champion: a son recognized only by DNA test

Massimo Ranieri italian singer, ditto for a daughter :

etc... only by legal battles if the biological father wish not make DNA test by bon ton

It's just a guess, but I would imagine you would have far more luck if there were a minor child involved and the need to prove paternity was for the purpose of obtaining child support, etc.

My sense however is that you are well beyond the age of 18....

You really didnt give a clear picture of what transpired between you and the man you think is your father.

Was it a one time meeting..never to meet again?

Was it a first time meeting, with more planned and a relationship to follow?

No matter which it is, forcing him to do something he does not want to do isnt the way to go...especially if you would like to develop a relationship.

I would let it go..see what happens in the future..and if a relationship comes of this..maybe he will be more willing.

Your mom said he is your father..you seem to think you see some of him in you..so be happy with that....for now.

Thanks to all. I really don't wish to force him into anything. I am just exploring options. Yes, I am well beyond the age of 18. My father is 79. The meeting was the first with no promise of further meetings but at the same time, there is a possibility of "following up" It has taken 20 years to get this far so I certainly do not wish to mess up now....even though time is running out.

Thanks again for your valued thoughts.
