Messina (Comune and Province) Sicily help

Post by JamesBianco »

Today I recieved the death act for my Paternal great-great-great grandfather Luigi Bianco from Reggio (RC). From it I learned he was born in Messina, Provincia di Messina, Sicily Here is what the document told me:

Luigi Bianco
Born 1832 (age 56 in September 1889)
son of Diego Bianco and Antonia Sofia, both dead and last residing in Messina, Messina, Sicily.

here is the death act image:

Luigi Bianco death September 13, 1889 Reggio (RC)

Does anyone have access to 1831-1833 Birth acts for Messina?

I mean LDS Microfilms?

If so, could you possibly check for my Luigi Bianco's birth act?

A million thanks

Wow, is that what the profession says? I thought that was a farmer. Thank you for clearing it up! It also says on the death act that his father Diego had the same profession!

In Spadafora & Novara di Sicilia, Sicily (where Luigi lived and had children before moving to Reggio Calabria) he is listed as a farmer.

What did that profession involve in those days?

Thank You

Jim

the"Appaltatore"/Contractor in Italy have a double meaning becuase Appaltore concern 1 work with 2 elements: contractor and constructor; so a Appaltatore make the constructor and for make it , he must make also the contractor..... obvioulsy he must going in the town where he find and have the job.... and when ending he came in another town... or if he have the job in own birthplace he can make the job in the place, but this happen in big town; in little village of the past the appaltatore if wished working, he must be moved...( hoping correct in english)... regards, suanj

Thank you Suanj, that was very informative! I have never seen that occupation on an act before. He moved around a lot I know, that is why it is has been so difficult to find his birthplace, which is not listed on the 6 birth acts I have for his known children.

Messina is a very big comune (by Sicily standards) so it will be difficult to trace him there. Maybe I will write to Messina for his birth act or the marriage of his parents. There are so many microfilms!!
