Re: Looking for the Lofaro's & Rapisardi fr Catania
My great grandmother was a Rapisardi from Miletello in Val di Catania. I don't have very much information but would be happy to share what I have.

Re: Loverdi
Essgee,
I think you've got it! RUSS and SAM/SAL are common Americanized versions for the name Rosario. Ross and Ray are other Americanized versions of Rosario too.
Maryann,
Can you confirm that your grandfather Charles Russell was born in the U.S.?

Re: Catalano, Antonio - grandfather, born in Rapolla
This manifest may mean something...it shows an Antonio from Rapolla going to his brother Michele in Montreal. See line 30
http://ellisisland.org/search/shipManif ... 1970080272
Michele's surname is surely Catalano.
Good luck

Re: Surname - Romano, southern Italy, late 1800's
mfjp,
That's a tough one. Looks like Tatalvo????? I'll go back and look again.
As for the daughters, if the census is even close to having their right ages, then they should have been born in the U.S. In 1920 Minnie is 4 yrs 3 months and Josephine is 2 yrs 6 months.
Good work!

Hi jeri,
Take another look at that census. It shows Joe as 33 immigrated in 1904. Mary looks to be about 22, maybe 28 and immigrated 1913. I think mfjp raises a good point. It's possible Joe went back to Italy to marry but it also is possible Mary came here to be married.
Good Luck

mfjp,
I've learned a lot from my good and kind friend, Suanj. In this case, I took your lead and just worked backwards from what you found on Giuseppe.
Good work.
Buona
