Facenda, Famigliare and Palladino surname
Facenda, Famigliare and Palladino surname
Hi,
I am trying to locate information on Tomasso Facenda and his wife Elisa Famigliare Facenda. Tomasso was born January 14, 1863 and Elisa April 5, 1876. Elisa was his second wife. I'd like to find their birth certificates and marriage certificate. I believe they sailed to the U.S. in 1895.
Tomasso left his first wife, Cesarina Palladino and four children Armando, Assanta, Tony and Marianna. I would like to find his divorce papers if possible. These children all came to the U.S. Exact dates are unknown by family. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you Kimm

since they were from the town on Campagna, province of Salerno,
I suggest you to write, only in italian, in order to get their birth and marriage certificate to
Comune
Ufficio di Stato civile
Piazza A. Cantalupo 1
84022 Campagna (SA)
Italy
or you can contact Archivio di Stato di Salerno (where you also may find his military record and military draft card)
http://www.archivi.beniculturali.it/UCB ... me=SALERNO
At that time was illegal to divorce.
Divorce law comes to Italy during 1970's
I hope it helps
bye Riccardo

Thanks to both of you. Still trying to find Tomasso and Elisa. It's so frustrating. I would love to find what ship they came over on and his naturalization papers if possible.
I will write for the information. Thanks again.

Re: Facenda, Famigliare and Palladino surname
Kimm,
I just found a reference in my family research to a Italio (Joe) Facenda and his wife, Amelia Siani. This family was living at 409 Fourth Street in Portsmouth, VA according to the 1930 census. I think there must be a family relationship with your Facendas. Another member here Elton10 also has Facendas in Portsmouth in his family tree. I am contacting him about a possible family tie also.

Re: Facenda, Famigliare and Palladino surname
Let me know and I'll pass it along to my sister-in-law. Her maiden name is Facenda and I've put her in contact with her grandfather's relatives in Portsmouth. Now if only I could find some names in my family... hit the wall hard this time.
Re: Facenda, Famigliare and Palladino surname
My wife, Michelle Miano Perry, is the great-granddaughter of Marianna Facenda Manzione and the great-great-granddaughter of Tomasso Facenda and Cesarina Palladino. Known as "Annie", Marianna Facenda Manzione actually came to America hunting her father down as he had left Cesarina and the four children and ran off with Elisa to America. Annie eventually went to Portsmouth, Virginia to live with her Uncle Tony Facenda, who was a musician in the U.S. Navy band at the shipyard in Portsmouth, as were many other Italian musicians from the towns of Campagna and Contursi in the Salerno District, Campania, Italy.
Tomasso Facenda eventually moved back to Portsmouth to live out the rest of his life with his son, Armando Facenda, and Armando's wife, Giuseppina "Peppina" D'Ambrosia Facenda. I have photographs of all these people copied from my wife's family's photo albums.
Annie Facenda married to Pietro "Pete" Salvatore Manzione in Portsmouth. Pete was the son of Giuseppe Manzione -- another musician in the U.S. Navy band with Tony Facenda. Pete and Annie Facenda Manzione had Thomas Manzione, who was my wife's grandfather. Thomas Manzione married to Addie Thomas Hancock of North Carolina, and they had two daughters who grew up on Lincoln Street in the Newtown section of Portsmouth -- Mariana "Mary" Manzione who married to Alvis Stephens, and Shirley Louise Manzione who married to John Stanley Miano Jr.. John Stanley Miano Jr. was the son of John Stanley Miano Sr. and Jean Elizabeth Quinn Miano. John Stanley Miano Sr. was the son of Giuseppi Miano and Mary Ellen O'Brien Miano. Giuseppi Miano is the topic of another discussion that I have started here on the Miano Family of Messina. Giuseppi Miano was the son of Pasquale Miano and Rosaria Lo Coco.
I look forward to corresponding with any other Facenda and Manzione family members.

Hey Zane,
You must be Elton's cousin. Elton and I went to school together and have been in touch re family from Contursi Terme. He mentioned his cousin from Portsmouth in our discussions.
Do you have any knowledge of a Italio (Joe) Facenda who married into the Briscione/Siani family?

Dear One,
Yes, we are certainly Elton's cousins! Elton and his lovely wife stopped by here recently and we all had dinner together and talked about the old family.
I do know of an Italio Facenda, although I do not personally know the family. Are you a part of that family? Is your family also from Contursi? What a small world!
Thank you for writing me!

Re: Facenda, Famigliare and Palladino surname
Family is from Contursi. Briscione and Boniello. My grandfather Angelo Briscione was a musician and so were all my father's Boniello uncles and cousins. My father preferred basketball to the sax. I was interested when you commented about the Italian musicians from Contursi. I wonder why?
I will be in touch to you and Elton (we grew up together in Newark,NJ but just found out in the last year that our families came from Contursi) We are going to Contursi in July and I intend to spend some time going through records. I'll be happy to do a little research for you guys also.
Joe Facenda married my father's first cousin, Amelia Siani, whose mother was a Briscione. The Sianis are also from Contursi.
